Proverb Beads These beads were inspired by Italian beads from the 16th century. The beads from the 16th century had proverbs and popular sayings painted around the middle of the bead in either Italian or Latin. The antique beads were often given by young men to their girl friends as tokens of their love and as a rememberance when they were going away to war or for other reasons.

With the current popularity of affirmations and inspirational quotations I thought beads of this sort would be fun. In keeping with the vintage feel and the inspiration of the original antique beads I have also put the sayings and proverbs on these beads in either Latin or Italian. It is my belief that the Latin and Italian sayings will prove to make these beads a conversation piece which will serve to remind the wearer of the proverb/afirmation/saying and it gives a charming vintage feel to the piece. I have chosen positive afirmation type proverbs and sayings. I hope that you will find these as charming as I do.

These beads are decorated with a chintz type design. The designs are transferred to the bead and then hand painted using china paints.

Each bead comes with a little certificate that tells you the English translation of the Latin or Italian on the bead and a bit of the background.
