This rattle bead features a  design taken from the ancient Mimbre pottery designs.  The design is hand painted onto a hand formed rattle bead made from earthenware clay .  It was painted using underglazes then fired.

The Mimbres were a group of indians that lived in the Southwesten New Mexico area about 1000 AD.  They are well known for their striking black and white designs found mostly on bowls.  The design on this rattle bead is taken from artifacts found from this culture.
